Public realm is essentially the 'user design' of the initial Urban Design concept. It is a detailed vision of what specific places can offer.
In northern Europe we have increasingly in recent years adopted the outdoor lifestyle of the southern European countries realizing that in spite of our slightly colder temperatures the outdoors are our extended living rooms and the use of them is essential to our general health and well being.
It is vital that these shared spaces are accessible and usable by everyone. Diversity and usability starts in the Public Realm and are essential components in the making of a high quality public realm.
